‘Slate-Grey Rain and Polished Euphoniums’: Southern Pennine Brass Bands, the Working Class and the North, c. 1840-1914

In this short course, led by Dr Stephen Etheridge, we will be exploring the rich history of brass bands in the areas surrounding Huddersfield, with a particular focus on Slaithwaite Brass Band. The sessions will shed light on how and why the bands are such a powerful symbol of class and region in West Yorkshire.

This is a 3 session course taking place over 4 weeks. The dates of the sessions are Wednesday 3rd, Wednesday 10th and Wednesday 24th February
