A month ago I posted about the building works and about general progress with the cataloguing and other foundation activities. How things move on in a month!

There are now very promising sounds of demolition coming from our new facilities – and Rob and Kelda have been blogging with regular updates on cataloguing the rugby league and music archives as they make major progress in uncovering the collections.

In the last month we’ve commissioned our new suppliers for conservation – West Yorkshire Archive Service conservation team – and digitisation – SavePhoto (they don’t just do photos!). We are now working out ways we can work together to conserve vulnerable archives and to improve both conservation and accessibility through digitisation.

Our marketing and communications consultants over at Whitespace have developed some great ideas for our new brand and we’re all looking forward to the Big Reveal in the near future!

Our long-standing team on the construction side – architects Darntons, quantity surveyors Gleeds, mechanical & electrical specialists Couch Perry Wilkes, structural engineers Tim Stower & Partners and CDMC Hickton are working closely with the contractors team from Triton Construction as work continues in old Cafe on 3rd.

Multimedia consultants and software designers Wide Sky are shortly to be joined by AV hardware contractors so the multimedia side of things in the new facilities is also well underway.

And at the end of this month we’ll be interviewing for the project’s full-time Participation and Engagement Officer, and I’m looking forward to being able to introduce them in due course. This postholder will be responsible for much of the programming in the new centre. But bookings are already starting to come in from Huddersfield Local History Society among others. So after all the planning and preparatory work in the background it’s really exciting times!
