Theatre & Performance

Heritage Quay’s theatre and performance collections demonstrate the rich talent that has come from or been performed in the local area.

The Sir Patrick Stewart Archive contains a wide range of material concerning various projects throughout his career, notably a large amount of
material relating to theatre work, the Star Trek TV and movie franchise, X-men, and A Christmas Carol.

The Mikron Theatre Company Collection is a fascinating archive of a mainly canal-based theatre company, who’ve been performing in pub gardens
and village halls across the canal network of the UK since 1972. It contains records of actors and those involved with the running of the company,
such as scripts, research and development folders for shows, programmes, backdrops, and more. It also charts the administrative story of keeping a
small independent theatre company in business through fundraising, funding bid applications and reports.

Another major collection is the Kirklees Theatre Trust Archive (incorporating the Lawrence Batley Theatre Collection) which contains records prior
to the establishment of the Lawrence Batley Theatre, as well as after. It also contains ephemera produced by visiting musicians and production
companies, as well as records regarding community outreach, project management and fundraising.

The Huddersfield Amateur Operatic Society, now the Huddersfield Musical Theatre Society Archive, contains material dating from the beginning of
the 20th century. This includes programmes and administrative files which tell an official history, but also objects, from conductors’ batons to dolls
used as show props or costume tests.
