For one afternoon only, step back in time to the Huddersfield Technical College!

In 1884 a new institution appeared in Huddersfield, the Technical College. Formed by a merger of the Mechanic’s Institute and Female Educational Institute, this new organisation also had a new building – the Ramsden.

In this special event we are bringing the archives to life as we show you the courses, jobs and social activities involved in education in this period.

We’ll have tests, examinations and demonstrations to see and you can even take on the character of a Victorian student and quiz the tutors. What courses will you choose to take and what kind of job will you get afterwards? And mostly importantly, what can you do for fun?

Heritage Quay is celebrating the 175th birthday of the University of Huddersfield with this special event, held as part of the Festival of Learning.
