    Composers' works retained records Item

    1993-1999
Reports and correspondence concerning the retention, removal and addition of composers' works to the British Music Information Centre's music library. The records include lists of works included in the BMIC's collection that were sent to the individual composers with the request that they make any corrections to the catalogue data, that included the addition and removal of works to/from the collection. The records also contain the responses that the BMIC received from the composers which state their wishes regarding the addition and removal of works to/from the collection, and often contain anecdotal information about themselves and their works.

    Betamax recordings information files Item

    1980s
Records that identify and provide details about the individual recordings contained on each Betamax tape in the British Music Information Centre's music library. The recordings on the Betamax tapes were transferred to these tapes during the 1980s when the British Music Information Centre undertook a migration project to transfer some of the Centre's most at risk recordings from obsolete formats (mostly reel-to-reel tapes) onto a more stable contemporary format. The files contain information sheets that provide details about the original recordings and the migration process that was undertaken. Most of the tapes contain recordings of works by a single composer and some of the files also contain additional reference material relating to that composer and their works.

    Card index of composers Item

    1970s-1990s
Card index covering scores and recordings in the BMIC library, by composer. Includes composer, title of work, date, reference to score/recording and other detail. There are two sequences of index cards which appear not to duplicate each other. They seem to have been created at different periods with the second sequence covering later compositions or later acquisitions by the BMIC library. A composer may appear in both sequences.
The exact start and end dates between which this index was maintained are unknown. BMIC acquired a computer in the 1990s and it seems likely that these card indexes were maintained alongside later computerised indexes.
The online catalogue data was created from these index cards, which forms the basis for much of the catalogue of scores (BMC/SC) and recordings (BMC/RE).
